Champions league exit for English sides / Arsenal and Wenger’s plan / Champions league news for English clubs / Midweek Champions league news ….

It’s time for the Champions league again folks and I have to say It could be a disaster for most involved. There is a good chance that 2 from 4 of the sides we have in could crash out in the groups. Chelsea the holders could crash out before the knockout, which I believe would be a first for the holders in the CL. Arsenal haven’t looked that convincing as of late and they must win to stand any chance of nailing down top spot. But, they have not won away from home on matchday six since 1999 and given things are out of their hands – they will need a favour from Montpellier whatever their own result . Arsene Wenger looks to be prioritising Saturday’s Premier League clash with West Brom. That’s understandable given the fact Arsenal have now slipped to 10th in the table after Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Swansea.

“There are many players who need a rest, because they are on the verge of getting injured and some played with knocks,” said Wenger after that defeat and so the weakened squad he has picked to travel to Greece should come as no great surprise.

Wojciech Szczesny and Thomas Vermaelen are arguably the only members of Wenger’s first-choice XI on the plane, with a host of youngsters included. Forgive me for looking more at Arsenals situation but I don’t care about City and Utd seem to be already thru comfortably. It is worth saying that given City are out the CL , that they probably will put out a second string side IF they play in the Europa . I feel Mancini will concentrate on the league.
