Places I like to go in Taiwan/Taipei

I’m a simple man. Very simple ( yeh ok add joke here) . I like simple things. I like to have a can of lager after work on the walk back from Nanjing East road. I like to go to the pub and watch football with my bro and Jody. I like to eat salty Asian food with a Taiwan beer or Super Dry. Yakitori , teppanyaki and stir fry are current faves. But I don’t talk too much about the places I like to go :

The picture is a beautiful daytime shot of Civic Boulevard. Many great restaurants run parallel with the overpass , indeed there is a great deal of Japanese eateries.

Barista : I used to talk about this a lot on the blog. It’s a coffee shop with better coffee than most of the competition. Good atmos and a great place to sit and read albeit a little pricey.

Tavern : Sports pub off Keelung road near the 101. Great Heineken there and a great place to sit and watch maybe 1-5 footy games ( there are over a hundred screens!) .

Minchuan east road Taipei/Civic boulevard Taipei: Basically both area’s you can eat Yakitori with a cold one. Chilled out. Great relaxing feel to the place. See the above picture.

Taipei main station underground mall : Obscure place this but it’s where I get all my games. Playstation galore with an opportunity to get second hand games too!

My balcony/PS3 room : Need I say more. A bourbon on the balc or a session of modern warfare 3 in my room. Both ideal.

Local city parks : The city is littered with tiny little parks in which you can sit until the wee hours drinking and talking. Find a good one near your house and it can be your own personal garden.

The holodeck : Only kidding.

Outside of Taipei :

Kenting : Taiwan’s answer to Brighton. South coastal area with blue water and golden sand. The local town has great Thai food and a holiday atmosphere unmatched in Taiwan. The sun is fierce and the air is hot , but it’s all part of the appeal. Here is an excerpt about Kenting . Note it talks more specifically about Kenting national park as that’s the main holiday area :

Kenting National Park is a national park located in the Hengchun Peninsula of Pingtung County, Taiwan, covering Hengchun, Checheng and Manjhou Townships. Established on January 1, 1984, it is Taiwan’s oldest and southernmost national park, covering the southernmost area of the Taiwan island. Administered by the Executive Yuan‘s Ministry of the Interior, this national park is well-known for its tropical climate and sunshine, scenic mountain and beach, the Spring Scream rock-band festival held in every March,[1] and has long been one of the most favorite resort places in Taiwan.
